Manage Your Mindset During COVID-19: Aim For 1% Improvement Each New Day

We’ve all been under a lot of pressure and stress over the last several weeks. With everything going on in the world right now it’s hard for many artists to stay positive, motivated, and focused.

So, if you are feeling down and unmotivated, it’s perfectly understandable. Art sales have pretty much stopped altogether. Gallery exhibitions and events have been postponed and cancelled. Many art lovers and collectors have stopped spending too.

Today we’d like to show you a different way of thinking and working to help you during these challenging times.

It’s a concept to improve your art business, lift your spirit, and get you feeling like you’re back in the captain’s seat again.

It’s called ‘kaizen’. Continuous improvement.

All we want you to do is aim for a 1% improvement each new day!

Stop focusing on your art business’ results (you already know it’s no good at the moment anyway), and start focusing on your own personal efforts.

We want you to lift your game by making your main focus a 1% improvement each day!

Your efforts are not just focused on your art business, it’s also about your own personal development focus too. And remember to focus on your efforts and behaviour, not your results.

It’s not about massive changes overnight. It’s about small, incremental, daily improvement. The intention is to become 1% better every day.

Small steps. Incremental improvement.

The secret to this strategy is ‘compounding’. Each small improvement builds on the next. Each small success encourages and motivates the next. Each day builds on the next.

It starts small and then builds. Compounding incrementally. Then exponentially. Very soon you’ll start to see your 1% improvements compounding each day and then doubling every 72 days. (That’s the math.)

Continuous improvement.

Are you ready to do this?

Firstly, take some time to describe to yourself what a high-performing artist looks like. This high-performing artist could be someone you know or admire. What are the characteristics and behaviours of this artist? What are they doing? What are they focused on? What are their priorities? How are they achieving at a higher level?

List down your thoughts in the present tense and make it personal. e.g., I am spending 5 hours of painting a day. (Take note of the ‘I’ and not he, she or they. We want you to be, and to see yourself, as that high-performing artist.)

Write it down.

Now, based on your planning, ask yourself the question; “What’s the ONE SMALL THING I can start doing today to improve?”

Make one small positive change each day. Make your effort to achieve something like the high-performing artist you’re aspiring to be would do. Keep working, focus on your list throughout the day, and do your best to demonstrate the character traits of the artist you’re aspiring to be.  This will assist you in staying inspired and motivated.

The key step is to review your progress at the end of the day.

How did your small improvement go? What you would do differently for your next 1% improvement tomorrow?

What works? Keep doing it! What didn’t work? Stop doing that!

By reviewing your efforts on a daily basis you can acknowledge what you have achieved every day and look out for things that require your attention too. Make sure you celebrate your wins and gains too, share it with your stakeholders. Even just a pat on the back will do wonders to your confidence and motivation.

In the evening before bedtime, visualise for a few minutes and see yourself as already being the high-performing artist you aspire to be. Our mind works in mysterious ways and it is powerful. The more you focus on your efforts and actions as if you already have the qualities of that high-performing artist you aspire to become, the closer you’ll come to achieving the outcomes you’re seeking.

“The mind is everything, what you think you become” ~ Buddha

This mindset technique will improve you how you think and work. It helps you to focus on efforts and not your results.

Aiming for a 1% improvement every single day is something we are all capable of doing. Wouldn’t you agree?

The power of this is that if you do this every single day, then you will completely transform your business and your life to where you want to be in less than 1 year. This is why Einstein used to say, “The power of compounding is one of the most powerful forces in the world.”

At ArtSHINE we want you to aim to be better today than you were yesterday,

               “Tomorrow is a promise.

                                            Yesterday is gone.

                                                           So make tomorrow today
