Tips to Frame Your Photos like a Pro

The world of photography has evolved to the extent that it is now possible for us to store hundreds and thousands of photographs in our pockets using the multiple devices that we carry with us. In the modern world that we live in, everything is present digitally and we don’t develop photos the way we used to before. Printed photographs seem to be becoming a thing of the past with each passing day.

But no matter how many pictures you’ve stored on your drives or how many videos and images you have on your phone, nothing beats the look of a framed photo. A beautifully framed photograph brings back sweet memories in a way that a digital picture never can.

According to an expert at Picture Framing Maroubra, there are many things to consider when getting your pictures framed. If you want the frame to ensure that the picture stands out when placed in a room full of other things, you need to know a few tips and tricks.

Let’s look at some of these tips on how you can frame your photos like a pro:

  • COLOR OR BLACK AND WHITE?

Choosing the color for your photo is the first step, whether you do it in the editing process or at the end while printing it. The important thing is to know is what you will do with that photograph — will it be a gift or another picture frame for your home? You also need to think about where we will place the photograph. Visualize how a black and white photo will work in the place where you wish to place it and think about whether it will be suitable.

The best way to choose between these two options is to create both a color and a black and white photograph and compare the two to know which one looks better.

2. GLOSSY OR MATTE?

The result of each photograph in glossy or matte will be very different. A glossy print highlights the most vivid and deepest colors, but the brightness is usually not suitable in a painting. The matte finish offers more natural colors and does not generate reflections when printed in large formats.

You can print some photographs in glossy and others in matte, of course in a small sizcolure, to compare the colors, and choose the one you like best. For many photographers, the glossy finish highlights the colors more making the photography more vibrant but in the end, it is all a matter of personal choice.

3. FIND A TRUSTED PHOTO PRINTING LAB

There are many photo printing labs, each offering a different result. You can even print your photographs in one of those large self-service stores that have large printers with high-quality results.

Ideally, you should look for a trusted photo printing lab – one that has been recommended by a family member/friend or one from which you’ve gotten photographs printed before so that you can be assured that they offer good quality.

A professional photo lab makes a lot of difference. In addition to the quality of the final result, they have a lot of valuable advice to offer. They can help you decide on the printing specification such as the paper to use and size. They will also handle the technical aspects of your files in case you have doubts about how to deliver them for printing.

4. CHOOSE THE BEST PAPER

With the advances in technology, photo printing is more effective, faster, and better in quality in terms of tones, colors, and results than ever before. Choosing a good paper is very important for your framed photograph because no matter how much time passes, it’ll stay good as new. A poor quality paper may look just as nice initially but with the passage of time, the difference will become visible as the color of the photograph starts to fade.

Try at least 3 or 4 types of printing paper and ask which one is the most suitable for framing photographs. Remember that photo labs can help you with any questions you have. You should also check with different labs to discover which one has the best paper.

5. PHOTO SIZE

Once you decide on the picture you wish to frame, there is another important factor to consider: the size. You can print in the picture in different sizes, depending on your personal preferences. Many printing methods have the function of cropping or enlarging the original photo size. Sizes usually start from 4×7 and go up to 24×30.

When choosing the size, you must also consider the kind of frame you are after and visualize how it will look in it.

6. BORDERS

When choosing to frame a picture, you must decide whether to do it with borders or not. The border is the space between the frame and the photograph – it can be in different colors and sizes. The border highlights the photograph and makes it pop. In smaller photographs, a thin border works best while larger photographs look great with a thick, prominent border.

7. FRAME

When framing a photograph, you must choose the type and material of the frame. You don’t want to go overboard with the design of the frame though; a simple frame ensures that all the attention is drawn to the picture itself so that it can be better appreciated.

These are some of the most popular types of frame:

  • Aluminum frames with an acrylic glass
  • Digital photo frame
  • Fabric frames
  • Metal frames
  • Frame with canvas on a frame

8. CLEANING THE PHOTOGRAPH

Before you place the picture in the frame, make sure that it is completely clean, and so is the frame and the glass that covers it. Clean the glass with a damp cloth and then a dry one so that you eliminate any stains.

Try always to keep the complete picture clean so that it looks its best. A photo with a clean frame gives a phenomenal look.

Conclusion

Framing a photograph instantly gives it more importance; it becomes so much more visually appealing and anyone can see it without touching or mistreating it. Not only does a photograph stay safe from dust in a frame, but it is easier to move around and place it in different areas of the house.

There are many ways to frame a photograph. You can go to a photo lab you trust to explore the different options available and find the best one for your pictures. Good luck!
