As a business owner, you know that when it comes to your team members that you want to hold onto them. Not only because it’s expensive to hire new team members and time-consuming too, but also because when it comes to your team, you rely on them and are proud of how hard they work.
Of course, the issue is that high flying workers are constantly being poached by head hunters from other brands, offering them various perks and improved job opportunities. This is a problem that every business owner will face at one point or another, which is why it’s so essential that you know how to hold onto your team members.
A simple way to ensure that you are able to hold onto your team members is to give them every opportunity to grow and expand their careers. Employers who don’t allow their team members the chance to move up the career ladder tend to lose their team members more frequently, as they feel trapped in their roles.
Bearing that in mind, the question is what steps can you take to help your team members move up the career ladder?
Offer additional training
Don’t just offer your team members basic training, be an employer who is constanlty running new courses, allowing your team members to gain as many qualifications and as much experience as possible. By doing this, you are showing your team members that you believe in them and want to help them to do well, which when it comes to holding onto them is exceedingly important.
Help cover the cost of education
Got a team member who is currently an assistant but dreams of being a supply chain manager? Why not cover the cost of their course so that they can gain the qualifications that they need and work for you in their dream role? Believe it or not, it’s possible for your team members to do online courses, such as an online supply chain management course, that has no impact on their time at work.
Promote from the inside
Want to show your team members that you value them and that you understand their need for a career that they are happy with? Don’t hire from the outside, instead promote from within. Honestly, if your team members see that you choose to advertise roles internally rather than externally first, you will have a much more content and happy team, as you are offering them chances of career advancement, which is what a lot of people want.
Being an employer is no easy task, that’s a fact that any business owner will agree with. However, it is easier than you would think to ensure that you are able to hold onto your team members and that you are able to keep your team happy and content. Losing a team member to another company is always a blow, which is why it’s so important that you take the time to better understand what it takes to actually have a happy and content team of workers who want to stay working for your company.
