As the old saying goes, procrastination is the thief of time. But we all still find ourselves succumbing to it now and then. There isn’t a single person out there who doesn’t find themselves stalling work at some point. Whether we’re distracting ourselves with videos on the internet, conversations with our friends or even dazing haphazardly out of the window. So how can we put a stop to our distractions and increase our productivity levels? Here are a few tips and tricks to getting your work back on track.
Eliminate Distractions
When it comes to working well, you need to rid your environment of all potential distractions. Your workspace should be clear, clean and devoid of cell phones, magazines, and social media feeds. The fewer things you have around to distract you, the easier it will be to focus on your work. So put your phone on silent mode and out of reach, close the door and only have necessary tabs open on your browser.
Take a Break
Take breaks. If you force yourself to work non-stop, you’re bound to start stalling and facing mental blocks. If possible, take a five-minute break for every hour you work. Use this time to stretch your legs, step outside for a breath of fresh air, have a toilet break or eat a little snack. This will give your mind a chance to recuperate and will give you time to reflect on decisions rather than rushing through them.
Have a Coffee
Coffee is great to pick you up during a slump in the middle of the day. So reach for a hot cup of your favorite freshly ground beans when you find your productivity levels dipping. Coffee beans are packed with caffeine which wakes you up and raises your alertness. You will be back on track in no time. Make a Checklist
Before you start any work, take a few moments to create a checklist of everything that you need to do throughout the day. Ticking tasks off as you go is extremely satisfying. It also allows you to organize yourself, allowing sufficient time to complete each task effectively by the end of the day.
Complete Your Hardest Tasks First
When you get to work, you may be tempted to push the least desirable tasks to the back of the queue. Avoid this. Try carrying out the hardest tasks first. This means they will be out of your way early in the day, rather than lurking at the back of your mind for hours on end.
Get an Early Night
Getting a good night’s rest is key when it comes to having a good day at work the following day. It ensures that your body is well rested and ready to go when the alarm goes off in the early hours. Instead of yawning, you will be carrying out your tasks in the most professional manner.
