If you run a business, keeping your team happy is likely to be central to your success. If you employ people, you want to get the most out of them. There are several ways you can improve performance, increase productivity and boost morale. Here are some helpful hacks to let your stars shine.
Keep them safe
Nobody should have to work in an unsafe environment. It’s true that there are many jobs, which carry occupational risks, but every employee should feel comfortable that their boss is doing everything to manage risks as effectively as possible. Health and safety should always be a priority. As the boss, it’s your duty to keep your employees safe, so make sure your business complies with the latest legislation, and go the extra mile to prevent injuries and accidents.
Be a cheerleader
Sometimes, the people you employ will be supremely confident in their own abilities, but often, you’ll come across candidates who need support and encouragement to reach their potential. You don’t need to go the whole hog and bounce around waving pom-poms, but let your employees know that you’re behind them, and support them if they show an interest in taking on additional responsibility or tackling new projects.
Give them the equipment they need
If you expect the highest standards from your team, you need to give them access to the technology and equipment that will enable them to do the best job. If you run a creative business, you want results, but don’t take your eye off your ball when it comes to productivity. Providing basic spray gun or nail guns, for example, will get the job done, but consider how much better life could be with oil lubricated air compressors in the toolkit. If you run an accounting business, think about how investing in the latest integrated software systems and computers could increase efficiency and promote cohesive working.
Offer opportunities
If you’ve got star players on your team, there’s every chance that they will catch the eye of other employers. If another company is offering a better salary, training opportunities, and the chance of moving up the ladder and claiming a more senior role, you’re going to struggle to keep hold of your most precious assets. To avoid rival firms poaching your best employees, make sure you’re offering a competitive package.
Inject a bit of excitement
It’s unlikely that anyone is ever going to have a whale of a time every single day at work, but there should always be an element of fun and excitement. Even if it means something as simple as having a drink after work every Friday or hosting a charity fundraising event every couple of months, make an effort to encourage socialisation and teamwork.
