Unconventional Ways To Stay Productive When Working From Home

Although working from home is extremely common nowadays, there’s still a lot of misconceptions around the whole idea.

Things like, people thinking if you work from home you must not have a real job, and are available for daily visits, or that you must just lay around in your pyjamas and mess around on the internet for a few hours.

If you’ve been working from home for a while, or even if you’re just new to it, you’ll probably have figured out that working in your pyjamas, although may be good at certain times, and you certainly appreciate the luxury, it’s not always the most productive way to begin your working day.

There are many articles out there that cover some great ways on how to stay productive when working from home, and while those are excellent sources of information, we’re going to cover a few of the not-so-common known productivity hacks.

Use A Timer

When you begin to track how much time you spend on each task, you soon realize that you probably procrastinate more than you thought. Setting a timer for each task gets your brain focusing on purely the task at hand, and because you’re literally racing against the clock, you’re going to work much faster and more efficiently than ever. Try starting off with a timer for 15 minutes, then a 5 minute break, then another 15 minutes work. You’ll be amazed how much you get done throughout the day.

Take Regular Breaks

As easy as it can be to procrastinate when left to your own devices, it can be equally easy to fall into the trap of overworking because you genuinely don’t leave the office. The human brain is designed to only take so much information at once, and like any powerful machine, it needs time to recharge and reboot. By taking regular short breaks throughout the day, you’ll be more focused, and getting away from the screen also won’t do your eyes any harm. Also making sure you get a good, healthy breakfast to see you through the start of the day will make all the difference and you won’t feel wiped out by the time your break rolls around.

Dress Nice

For people who work from home, this one often comes as a bit of a surprise when talking about productivity, but many studies have shown that when we feel confident in how we look, then we project that confidence towards everything we do, so it makes us perform better, too. This is why many companies have a dress code even for non-customer facing roles. So, if you’re looking to jazz up your wardrobe with some new work dresses, then you now have the perfect excuse. You certainly don’t have to be dressed for the red carpet, but just the feeling of a trendy new outfit that you feel good in will make all the difference.

Have A Real Lunch

When working from home, it’s easy to just have a quick lunch at your desk, but you sometimes need to behave as though you’re actually at an office for the day. That means taking an hour for lunch, going into either a different room and switching off from work, or even better, get outside and enjoy some fresh air, so you can stay fit and healthy. This will help you feel more energized and, ultimately make you more productive than coffee will. Also get into the habit of eating a healthy lunch that will keep your energy levels high throughout the day.
