So what it really means to you and your Art or Design business?
Is Commission is the right fit to your Business LifeStyle.
So you can decide whether this option is a right fit for your art or design business.
So what is Commission?
A commission is the hiring and payment for the creation of a piece of art or design, often on behalf of a client.
Throughout history, it has been common for rulers and governments to commission public art as a means of demonstrating power and wealth, or even for specific propaganda purposes. As an Artist you will come across where your client might commission you to do a painting according to their theme and colours. This is where you have a mission to deliver their vision. You need to understand what they want in a painting and create a painting that sums up their interpretation.
Once good aspect of commission work is you can charge your fee at a high rate, this is because you are creating an artwork just for them.
Some artists we have coached are specialised in only doing commission paintings only. Some of our fashion designers are also doing special theatrical costumes, ballroom or evening gowns. These type of commission works can be demanding and time consuming, therefore you need to charge at a higher rate.
Commission art can be challenging if you have difficulty working with people, commission involves lots of communication with clients. It is a collaboration between you and your client. Therefore, it is very important that you pay attention and listen to your client. Maintain a positive attitude is key to build a great relationship and always show excitement and interest in the project so that your client feel confident that you are the right person for the project.
Painting a commission can be a very rewarding experience for some artists or designers. Most art lovers or collectors enjoy working with artists, they feel special as you are giving them the personalise service and create an art piece just for them. But, every now and then you might encounter difficult clients. However, you have a choice, it is entirely up to you and whether or not you are up for the challenge.
What it means to you?
- Creating artwork or design pieces specially for your clients
- Have an art or design portfolio showing all your commissioned work
- Come up with your signature art or design, what would you like to be known as
- Promote your commission work online or joint venture which would compliment your businesses
