Bigger and Better Than Ever – 10 Days of Wine, Food and Art in Sydney

The dynamic Pyrmont Festival returns to Pyrmont, Sydney from 16-25 May 2014 showcasing the very best of the Pyrmont Precinct and Mudgee Region, with more than 50 restaurants, wine bars, hotels, winemakers and artists featured.

The ultimate event to experience a fabulous blend of city and regional produce and creativity, guests can enjoy wine dinners and tastings, photographic exhibitions and art displays without having to leave the city. Iconic Mudgee wineries participating include Huntington Estate, Burrundulla Vineyard and Lowe Wines. Winemakers and Pyrmont eateries will expertly select wines to match lunches, dinners and tastings across the 10 days.

The festival headliner is a two-day outdoor event with free entry* in Pirrama Park on the weekend of 17 and 18 May (11am-5pm) that caters to the whole family, with a program of live music and local artists across both days, as well as rides and children’s entertainment. Guests can meet the wine-markers and taste more than 120 wines, as well as sample a broad range of fine foods at more than 50 stalls.

Presented by the Pyrmont Ultimo Chamber of Commerce with the support of the City of Sydney, in partnership with the Mudgee Wine Region, this 10-day festival program highlight’s Pyrmont’s position as one of Sydney’s fastest growing tourist, creative, cultural and dining precincts.

FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:

Two-day outdoor event at Pirrama Park – Mudgee Wines in Pirrama Park – taste more than 150 Mudgee Region fine wines and savour Mudgee Region and Pyrmont produce from 50+ stallholders. A deliciously free-to-attend event, there will be live entertainment, rides and art exhibitions, including a sculpture installation and the 8th Pyrmont Art Prize.

There will be fun for the kids, with special appearances from the LJ Hooker Bear, colouring in and temporary tattoos. Adults can take the opportunity to take a seat in the shade, have a chat with our friendly staff and grab a goodie bag.

Pyrmont Cares Fundraiser at Blue Eye Dragon – Sorry – SOLD OUT! – A ten course Taiwanese Seafood Banquet prepared by Jade Huang and Head Chef Wahyuni Kasuma with wines courtesy of Robert Stein Winery, plus gift bags, lucky draws and raffles throughout the evening. The event is from 6.30pm on Monday 19 May, with tickets at $110 per person or $1,000 for a table of ten. All proceeds go to Pyrmont Cares Inc.

Dinner at Flying Fish – With an array of dining spaces, an award-winning wine list and a vibrant atmosphere, this restaurant provides the ultimate dining experience. Dinner will be matched with Bunnamagoo Estate wine for each course. Dinner is from 7pm on Thursday 22 May, with tickets at $99 per person.

Progressive Dining Walk – Sorry – SOLD OUT! – A one-night only event highlighting the diverse range of hospitality options available in the Pyrmont precinct. Dining locations throughout the walk include Signorelli Gastronomia, Blue Eye Dragon, Pyrama and Hotel 1888. The event will be from 6-10pm on Thursday 22 May with tickets at $150 per person.

The Apprentice at TAFE NSW Wine Dinner – A dining experience where menus are designed, prepared and served at five-star level by the rising stars of Sydney’s hospitality industry, with wines from Burnbrae Wines and Elliot Rocke Estate. The event will be from 7pm on 23 May, with tickets at $65 per person.

Blue Eye Dragon Dinner – Award-winning Restaurateur Muriel Chen hosts this Mudgee wine dinner at the Heritage St Bede’s Church Hall. Head chef Jade Chen presents an extraordinary ten course Taiwanese banquet with a selection of Mudgee Region wines, including newcomer Short Sheep Wines. The event will be on Saturday 24 May from 6.30pm, with tickets at $80 per person.

The Star Demonstration Kitchen – The Star will be showcasing the best of its fine dining at Pirrama Park on May 17-18, with their top chefs providing cooking demonstrations several times per day. Schedule to be released soon via the website.

The Eighth Annual Pyrmont Art Prize, curated by Lesley Dimmick of the Tap Gallery – This features more than 300 artworks with thousands of dollars in prizes on offer, as well as artists from Mudgee Region collaborating on a Sculpture Garden mounted throughout Pirrama Park.

Mudgee Sculpture Garden – Situated in Pirrama Park, these eye-catching sculptures inspired by Mudgee Region’s rural landscape will feature in a special ‘Sculpture Garden.’ There will be more than 25 art pieces from nine Mudgee artists – with all works for sale. This will be on display on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May, from 11am to 5pm each day.

Culture at Work’s Art Science Schools Project – Five local schools will paint more than 200 canvases with the topic of ‘Water,’ exhibited on 17 and 18 May in Pirrama Park.
