THE OPIC SYSTEM
Last week we talked about the importance of reviewing all the goals you set.
Today, let’s focus on the third quadrant of the OPIC system; “Implementation”.
This quadrant is critical as nothing will happen if you don’t take action. Executing your goals.
It doesn’t matter how fantastic your written goals are, if you don’t implement and take action then your goals will never come to life.
You need to review, follow up, and track your progress.
Here are some quick tips on how to revise and get back on track with your goals.
No matter what type of goals you set you can always find some appropriate measure to track your progress. (And here’s another hint. If you can’t define a measure for your goal, then you need to re-define the goal.)
-
Effective Tracking – One of the most common reasons people don’t get to achieve their goals is that you tend to get distracted by “Shiny Objects”, and lose track of important tasks. Without effectively tracking your goals and knowing where you are, you may become discouraged when the first road block gets in the way, and end up giving up on your goal before you even have the chance to complete them.
Sound familiar?
-
Execution – The key to achieving your goals is execution within a specific time frame. So go back to your goals and look at your execution stage again.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Did I set appropriate time frames for me to execute my goals?
- What’s stopping me from executing my goals right now?
- If there’s one thing I have to change, what would it be?
-
Regular Review – When did you last review the actions you’ve taken in pursuit of your goals?
Is what you’re doing actually working? How do you know?
This review stage gives you a great indication of how effective you are in achieving your goals. It’s where you can sit back and look at what you’ve achieved too. And celebrate your successes, large and small.
This stage is a wonderful opportunity to take the time you need to review your life and business objectively. It’s the time where you can decide to make any changes if particular goals aren’t working for you.
Keep your goals in mind by regularly revise them with today technology you can access anytime and anywhere. There’s plenty of apps you can download, or write down all your goals in a notebook, journal, or diaries. Find the system that best works for you.
For me I keep my goals in my iPhone and review them whenever I want. I do my revision on a weekly basis. Some of our clients prefer weekly, while some review monthly. You need to choose what works for you and for your business.
Select the right moment to review your goals. It can be in the morning, after your cup of coffee. It can be at night, just before you go to bed.
When you review your goals, visualise that you already have accomplished those goals.
Check in to look at the gaps in your execution. Understand how and what you need to do to close those gaps.
From our experience working with clients, by checking in and reviewing your goals regularly you coach your mind to become acutely aware of the tasks that are related to your goals. Gradually your mind will automatically guide you to do whatever is needed to be done to accomplish them.
-
Bite size chunks – It’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the tasks you need to do. The key here is to break down the bigger goal into smaller chunks in sequential, actionable steps.
Remember that old joke before? “How do you eat an elephant?”, “One bite at the time!”.
It’s the same with goal setting.
Once you break your goals down to measurable, manageable steps, all you need to focus on is just one small step at the time.
Through commitment, and with follow through, those small steps will see you achieve the big goal.

Find Your Triggers and Reward Yourself – What makes you want to achieve your goals? What drives you?
What’s your Passion? What’s the Purpose? How deep is your Desire? *** LINK TO DPP BLOG POST HERE ***
We coach our clients to find the key triggers providing the motivation that means they’ll follow through on their goals. We work to find the triggers that encourage and motivate from the time goals are set, till the goals are fully achieved and made real.
Set points along your journey towards your goal that, when the right results are achieved, you can reward yourself.
As long as you know the measures of your achievements along the way, there’s plenty of opportunity to recognize your successes and reward yourself for those successes.
Staying focused on what you want to achieve, and most importantly, staying focused on WHY, along with keeping track on your progress and rewarding yourself along the way, will help you move closer to your goals.
