Some simple tips for a better pitch to media & PRs:
- Keep it personal – Personalise your pitch, find out the key personnel and write directly to them.. It’s a good idea to learn a little about them. Find a connection and link your story to their specialty. Show that your story would be a good fit for their publication.
- Keep it short and concise – You need your pitch to stand out from the crowd. Keep it simple and straight to the point. The key here is to ensure the essence of your message comes across.
- Email and not as attachments – Send your story or media release in an email format. This way it will make it easier for them to copy and paste the article.
- Write an eye catching subject line – Your email subject line is critical to your success. Don’t use Caps in the subject line as it look like one of those SPAM emails you receive.
- Connect your story (Pitch) to a current trends or events – What’s the next “in thing”? How can you link your pitch to an event or industry trend?
- Be ready to answer questions – Make sure you are totally happy with the article you are planning to submit for publication. Prepare your answers to any further questions your story may generate.
