Cutting-edge exhibit meets photographers ‘Head On’ at ArtSHINE Gallery 2-31 May 2015

SYDNEY’S newest gallery is to host an exhibition of images by artists as part of a global photography festival next month.

The ArtSHINE Gallery, in the city’s Chippendale district, will be taken over with some of the most thought-provoking photographs from Saturday May 2 to Sunday May 31.

The exhibition, featuring five talented local artists, is to coincide with the Head On Festival – the nation’s most prestigious showcase for global photography.

Now in its 11th year, Head On is a bridge between Australian and international photographic markets, with $50 000 in prizes and a portal on the best emerging and established photography there is.

ArtSHINE Gallery, which opened in January, will host the images of:

  • Alex Evans
  • Sam Gatsby Lim
  • Dylan Coombe
  • Bart Vos
  • Julian Tatang

The public will be able to meet the photographers in an Artists Talkback session Saturday May 2 from 3pm-5pm. The opening night will be on Saturday May 16 from 7pm.

The Head On 2015 competition will feature four categories, 16 judges and 130 finalists. Exhibiting across all genres and experiences, Head On is a platform for the passion of the photographers, the excitement of the audiences, the beauty of the medium and the issues photography addresses.

Last year, Head On exhibited 55 artists from 18 countries. Festival tours in America, China and New Zealand introduced the international photographic elite and audiences in excess of 500,000 to the wealth of photographic talent Australia possess.

ArtSHINE Gallery co-founder Vinh Lam said: “The Head On Festival is one of the most prestigious events in the global photographic calendar and we, at ArtSHINE, are delighted to be hosting five of the cutting-edge artists of today.

“We are really excited that the exhibition will draw in audiences with the thought-provoking images and will leave an inedible stamp on people’s consciences.”
