If ArtSHINE Were a Dish on the Menu

At the SECNA Social Enterprise Festival on August 16th, last year, we had the wonderful opportunity to be featured on a podcast hosted by David Bruno. The conversation explored our journey with ArtSHINE, the role of social enterprise in supporting creatives, and how we help artists, designers, and creative professionals bring their work into the world.
Somewhere in the middle of this inspiring conversation, David asked one of his signature questions — a fun curveball he often throws at his guests:
“If your business and what you do was a dish on a menu, what would it be?”
It caught me off guard for a moment. But the more I thought about it, the clearer the answer became.

ArtSHINE as a Fusion Platter

If ArtSHINE were a dish, it would be a fusion platter — a vibrant mix of global flavours carefully curated to create a meal that’s both nourishing and inspiring.
Why a platter and not a single dish?
Because ArtSHINE has never been about one flavour, one direction, or one path. It’s about combining different ingredients — creativity, commerce, mentorship, and community — to build something bigger than the sum of its parts.

Diverse Ingredients

Just like a fusion platter that combines spices, textures, and cooking styles from around the world,  ArtSHINE brings together diverse creatives: painters, surface designers, photographers, musicians, illustrators, and more.
Each person is like an ingredient with their own unique flavour. On their own, they’re special. Together, they create something extraordinary — a community that thrives on difference, collaboration, and shared growth.

Balanced Nourishment

A well-crafted dish feeds the body.
ArtSHINE feeds the creative spirit.
The platter we imagine has bold flavours — representing the big dreams and ambitions of the creatives we work with. It also has gentle notes — the quiet, reflective moments that every artist needs to stay grounded. And, of course, a touch of spice — the challenges that push creatives to grow and step outside their comfort zones.
This balance mirrors what ArtSHINE offers: encouragement, practical tools, and the resilience to keep going even when the creative journey feels tough.

Made to Share

The beauty of a platter is that it’s meant to be shared at the table. It sparks conversation, connection, and laughter.
ArtSHINE works in the same way. Our programs, exhibitions, and licensing opportunities aren’t just about the individual. They are about building community — where creatives learn from each other, cheer each other on, and find strength in knowing they’re not alone.

Surprise and Delight

Every bite of a fusion platter offers something a little different. Sometimes it’s unexpected, sometimes it’s comforting, but it’s always intentional.
That’s ArtSHINE too. We guide creatives to discover opportunities they may never have imagined — from licensing deals with international companies, to exhibitions in Paris or Las Vegas, to transforming their ideas into products.
It’s about surprise and delight: opening doors that weren’t visible before and celebrating the wins along the way.

More Than a Dish

So, if ArtSHINE were a menu item, it would proudly be listed as:

ArtSHINE Creative Platter

A feast of global flavours designed to inspire, nourish, and connect.

Best enjoyed together.

Because at the heart of everything we do, ArtSHINE isn’t just about business. It’s about bringing people together, creating impact, and making sure creativity is valued not only as art, but as a livelihood.

Reflections from the Festival

That one fun question reminded me how powerful metaphors can be in explaining what we do. Sometimes it’s hard to describe all the different parts of ArtSHINE — the accelerator, the licensing agency, the exhibitions, the community programs, the coaching.
But when you picture a dish, a platter of flavours, it all comes together. It’s a way of saying: we’re here to serve, to nourish, and to celebrate creativity in all its richness.
And that’s why the SECNA Social Enterprise Festival was so meaningful. It brought together social entrepreneurs and changemakers who are each cooking up their own “dishes” — from sustainability projects to cultural initiatives — all adding something vital to the community.

Final Thought

So the next time someone asks what ArtSHINE is, I might just smile and say:
“We’re the creative platter on the menu. A little bit bold, a little bit comforting, always meant to be shared — and guaranteed to leave you inspired.”
